Returning surplus food to the community

On The House is a community group with no religious affiliation. Ours is a space where the New Plymouth community can interact, build relationships, and where our open-hearted volunteers serve surplus food to anyone who can make good use of it.

Volunteer

We operate 100% on volunteer power! Here are some meaningful ways you could help.

Donate

We run on the smell of an oily rag. Any dollar you can spare really will be put to good use!

Supply

We’ll collect your leftover food and share it freely with the community. No waste!

Free food with a smile,

no exceptions

Everyone who lines up is served by On The House volunteers. Choose from a selection of items donated fresh that day from local cafes and eateries. We often have meals, salads, bread, soup, savouries, muffins, fruit and veges. Everyone is welcome.

We want your leftovers, even
if they’re ugly!

We want your leftovers, even if they’re ugly!

Is there a one-off event (wedding, funeral, office shout, etc) with heaps of leftover food?

Do you have an abundant vege garden? Fruit falling from the tree? Give it to us and we will give it to those in need.

How can I help?

Big issues like hunger (food poverty) and food waste can be overwhelming to think about. On The House has found a practical way to make a real difference in your community. There are lots of ways to pitch in, from volunteering or donating, to just making some noise about the work we’re doing here!
